Day 1 of Week 2!

Just a reminder that there will be no summer camp on Wednesday, July 4!

What an amazing day of summer sailing! We were blessed with blue skies, awesome wind, and lots of smiling kids!

This morning, we had everyone out on the water! The mercury mentors had a super fun day with coach Dae and coach Chase! Each sailor steered the mercury and practiced their straight line sailing and tacking! The mercury mentors have been working hard to get checked off on their star charts. Once they complete a skill like tacking or gybing, the sailors will get a sticker to put on their star chart!

Beginner Optis had an awesome day of sailing and the coaches saw MAJOR improvements on the water! The kids sailed a windward leeward course, which allowed them to practice their upwind angles and tacking. The sailors mastered facing forward as well as their hand switch when tacking! In the afternoon, the kids sailed the same course to reinforce the learning from the morning and went on an adventure sail around the basin.

The 420 group practiced reaching today! Reaching is a fast point of sail which makes it so much fun! The sailors worked on sail trim and angle.  The sail trim is a challenge to get completely accurate. However, the sailors did a great job in understanding and executing the reaches!

The coaches love to see progress in the sailors and it is definitely showing due to the kids’ hard work!

See you tomorrow for another epic day!
