First Day of Session 2!

What a hot and sunny but awesome first day of session 2!

In the morning, the instructors went over safety procedures around the yacht club and rules of the sailing center. After introductions and name games, the sailors split into groups and headed to the pool for a swim test! They swam two laps of the pool and tread water for one minute! After the sailors passed the swim test, each group went over the parts of the boat and how to rig. The beginner optis, green fleet, mercury mentors and 420s  watched and listened as the coaches rigged their respective boats while introducing the proper and safe way to set them up!

In the afternoon, the opti and 420 sailors got on the water! The optis practiced their steering while coach Chase towed them around the intracoastal. Towing is a very important skill to practice for safety and steering. The 420 sailors worked on basic skills including upwind, downwind, and reaching to feel out the boats and wind!

It is always a positive to have the sailors out on the water on the first day of camp! Let’s hope for awesome weather like today for the rest of the session!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please make sure your child has a water bottle and sunscreen! It is super important for the kids to stay hydrated and protected from the Florida sun!

We will see everyone tomorrow morning for Day 2!
