Perfect Wind For Day 2!

Today was another excellent day of sailing on the Stranahan River in front of Lauderdale Yacht Club!

This morning the Beginner Optis learned how to tow behind the coach boat with Chase directing them how to stay in line. Here at LYC we tow quite a bit to get the Optis safely out of the channel LYC resides on, and if they get in trouble they need to know how to steer the boat behind the coach boat under tow! Last but not least, if they stay in the LYC Sailing Program they will need to be towed out to the ocean to practice.

In the second half of the day Beginner Optis sailed the famous ‘sausage course’ where they sail between two marks that are lined up perpendicular to the wind, so the sailors ‘tack’ around one buoy and ‘gybe’ around the other one. What is impressive is we are doing this drill on the second day! Great sailors already!

Below, you’ll pictures of Dae and company and Isa and crew in the Mercury sailboats! All eleven Mercury sailors spent time on the water with their coaches learning wind direction, points of sail and yes…..parts of the boat!

The 420s did some racing this morning with some sailors going home with prizes! The wind picked up in the afternoon which lended time to do some capsize drills. Capsize drills are important for sailors to be safe when the boat goes sideways!

Bailey, our Green Fleet sailor this session, received some time from Coach Anna and did really well!
