Day 4 of summer sailing camp was another beautiful day. This morning all of the fleets rigged up and went sailing! There was a slight breeze when everyone first got out and then the wind died. Before the wind died, the mercury mentors learned how to properly steer a boat! Since there was not enough wind for the boats to go sailing we tied them up to the east dock and played fun water and sailing games on the lawn. One of the games we played was “drip, drip, drop,” the kids love this game because it is a great way to cool off in the summer heat.
While at lunch, the wind started to pick up and we had a steady breeze from the southeast. Beginner Opti’s practiced their tacking skills after Coach Chase gave them a step by step lesson. Coach Sophia and the green fleet worked on hand switching with the tiller and main sheet behind their backs while tacking. Lastly, the 420’s did a follow the leader drill to start out the afternoon to help them with the boat handling they did yesterday. They then moved into races so the coaches could help them with wind direction and downwind sail trimming.
Today was another awesome day of sailing! We can’t wait to finish the week out strong tomorrow!
