Happy July 3rd! We hope everyone has an amazing 4th of July tomorrow with their friends and family.
This morning started with a small thunderstorm coming in off the ocean while the kids were getting dropped off. Right after that stormed passed, we had another beautiful sunny day. In the morning it was a light breeze that picked up to some great wind for sailing.
The 420’s started the day out with a follow the leader drill. Doing the drill while going downwind gives the kids a great way to practice their gybes. The coaches also set up a triangle with marks. This covered practicing downwind, upwind, and reaching. The triangle also gives them the opportunity to progress their skills in mark rounding.
Coach Dae and Chase, with the mercury mentors had a great day teaching the little ones how to gybe. Since all of them were able to practice this skill, they now get another star marked off on their star chart!
The Beginner Opti’s started their morning off with a triangle course drill to practice proper sail trim and placement while going upwind and reaching. In the afternoon Coach Anna towed the kids all the way up to Lake Sylvia. They then sailed downwind back to the yacht club. This is a great way to help the kids with body and sail placement because the coaches can be right behind them all the way back to the club.
Just a reminder that tomorrow there is no sailing camp. Have a great day tomorrow and we can’t wait to be back on Thursday!
