This session has been a great success! My fleet, the beginner optis, was one of the fastest learning classes I have had. To reward them, and all the other sailors who worked hard all session we decided to have some fun.
Mercury Mentors took to the water prepped with an anchor and goggles where campers looked for wildlife on the sandbar. After that, they watched the beginner optis practice races
Beginner Opti started the day off doing more starts and racing a windward leeward course. They have all done a great job with this, and their sailing futures look bright. In the afternoon, they were given a good sandbar break and finished off with three races.
420s also ran races in the morning, particularly to focus on the crews movements in the boat, followed with a sandbar break after more racing in the afternoon.
Green Fleet continued to work on their tacks with the cone drill. They also did three tack upwinds, to work on fleet management and race planning. As a fun bonus, the green fleeters were allowed to rig up a 420 and race alongside them.
Thank you parents and sailors who worked hard and I hope to see you in the program in the future.
