Another day of gorgeous morning weather and afternoon storms, today your familiar face from check-in is bringing you the daily report. My name is Coach Isa and I am one of the three Beginner Opti coaches here at LYC summer sailing camp.
Mercury Mentors Coach Dae and Sofia taught the basics of upwind sailing and how to complete a tack. Everyone got their time to shine with a chance to steer and learn how to tack. With tacking comes technique, and many of the sailors nailed the notorious back hand switch during execution of their tacks.
Beginner Opti Big day for the opti kids, as their points of sail were put to the test on a triangle course. With two sailors in the opti, one would trim the mainsheet to the correct point of sail, and the other would steer around the course. A job well done for beginner opti, as they really showed their work ethic and determination in figuring out how to control the boat!
Green Fleet With a windward leeward course, Coach Connor tested and perfected streamline speed and tacking with the Green Fleeter’s.
420 With no wind in the early morning, the sailors started off with a sandbar excursion. As the wind picked up Coach Chase and Joey set up silly races! Using their imagination, the kids came up with fun ways to get around the course in the fastest way possible.
