The Mercury Mentor Program is the entry point into LYC’s youth sailing pathway, designed specifically for beginner sailors ages 5–7 who are ready to get comfortable on the water in a fun and supportive environment.
Mercury Mentors is offered exclusively during Summer Camp, with sessions running Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Sailors learn aboard LYC-provided Mercury sailboats, which fit multiple children and an instructor, creating a safe and social learning space. Programming includes water awareness, swim checks, basic sailing instruction, and playful sailing games—all taking place in the calm Stranahan River basin right in front of the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
This low-pressure program is all about building confidence and joy on the water.
After Mercury Mentors, sailors typically move on to the Little Optis program, where they begin sailing solo and developing core sailing skills.
