LYC Alumni Shine at the 2025 ICSA Singlehanded National Championships

Lauderdale Yacht Club sailors delivered an extraordinary showing at the 2025 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championships, reaffirming the club’s position as one of the nation’s strongest development programs. Across both the men’s and women’s championships, eleven LYC alumni earned their place at the starting line—an exceptional level of representation and a point of great pride for the LYC community.

In the Men’s Singlehanded Championship, LYC alumni comprised seven of the eighteen competitors, a remarkable concentration of talent at the national level. Leading the way was Harvard’s Robby Meek ’27, who sailed a poised and disciplined regatta to claim the Glen S. Foster Trophy as national champion. Close behind were Georgetown’s Owen Kohut ’29, Boston College’s Jake Homberger ’29, and Georgetown’s Peter Barnard ’27, all finishing inside the top ten after a weekend of tight, tactical racing. Further showcasing the program’s depth were strong performances from the College of Charleston’s Thomas Kraak ’28, Roger Williams University’s Connor McHugh ’28, and Tulane University’s Alejo Di Blasi ’29, each contributing to an impressive block of LYC sailors finishing within the top sixteen. Together, their results highlighted the skill, composure, and competitive instincts that have long defined LYC’s ILCA development pathway.

The Women’s Singlehanded Championship added another outstanding chapter to the weekend. Four LYC alumni qualified for the regatta: Amaya Escudero of Webb Institute, Avery Baldwin Stanford University, Kaitlyn Hamilton and Katherine Doble of Brown University. Racing in a highly competitive ILCA 6 fleet, Doble delivered one of the standout performances of the event, finishing second overall and securing a national podium finish for Lauderdale Yacht Club. Escudero, Baldwin, and Hamilton each demonstrated the technical ability and race experience that earned them their championship berths, giving LYC one of the strongest collective showings in the women’s fleet.

With eleven alumni competing across the two championships—and a national title and silver medal brought home—this year’s event underscored the continued success of LYC sailors at the highest level of collegiate competition. These achievements reflect the dedication of the athletes, the guidance of their coaches, and the enduring culture of excellence that defines the Lauderdale Yacht Club sailing program. We congratulate all of our sailors and look forward to following their continued success throughout their college careers!
