US Sailing ODP Sailors Kick off the Quad at LYC

Several sailors from the US Sailing Olympic Development Program (ODP) in the ILCA 7 class recently trained at Lauderdale Yacht Club as they begin the long and demanding pathway toward the 2028 Summer Olympics. For LYC, the training block was an opportunity to support its sailors as they pursue excellence at the highest level of the sport while representing the United States.

The camp was coached by Luke ‘Swifto’ Elliott. Swifto used his depth of Olympic knowledge during the two camps at LYC, helping establish the focus, discipline, and long-term mindset required for a multi-year international campaign.

A strong contingent of the training group were Lauderdale Yacht Club alumni, underscoring the club’s long-standing role in developing sailors who continue to progress through the sport. The group included Leo Boucher, Devon Owen, Robby Meek, Jake Homberger, Tommy Kraak, and Connor McHugh, all LYC alumni, along with Steward McCaleb. Almost all of these sailors began their competitive careers through LYC programs before earning selection to the Olympic Development Program.

Lauderdale Yacht Club has previously hosted major youth and national-level events, and welcoming ODP sailors to train reflects the club’s continued commitment to supporting its sailors at every stage of their sailing journey. From youth championships to Olympic-class development, LYC remains a familiar and supportive environment where sailors can continue to challenge themselves and grow.

As the road to Los Angeles 2028 unfolds, LYC is proud to support sailors competing within the US Sailing Teams as they strive to reach the pinnacle of the sport and pursue the ultimate goal of representing the United States on the Olympic stage.
