Second Day of Fun in Session One!

Day two of Summer Session 1 was a success! Lots of review on yesterday’s topics included parts of the boat, points of sail, and safety procedures. Most importantly, everyone was able to get on the water to sail today!

Beginner Opti

Today, the beginner Opti group did the capsize drill which allowed the kids to practice turning  the boat back over after flipping. After passing that test, the kids practiced their steering on a tow one more time before they really sailed! All the kids took turns steering and sailing around all afternoon in the Cove!

Green Fleet

Today, the Green Fleet practiced start sequences and racing! Coach Stephen reviewed starts on land in preparation for the water. Because of the starts and racing , the sailors practiced upwind, downwind, and boat-handling (tacks, gybes and mark roundings)!

420s

The 420 group went sailing in the morning and afternoon. Some sailors in this group had never sailed before and learned how to steer and control the boat! The sailors practiced all points of sail including upwind, downwind and reaching.

Mercury Mentors

The mercury mentors had a very exciting day! Coach Dae reviewed parts of the boats and capsize recovery. They did a swim test and capsize drill as well! They then went sailing and were all super excited to get in the Mercury! While sailing, Dae reviewed what was taught on land to reinforce all the information covered.
