LYC Dominates Team Trials!
LYC continued to stake its claim as the top Opti Team in the Nation at the USODA Team Trials – the toughest domestic event of the year that acts as the qualifier for all Summer National and International Teams. Stephan Baker won the event for the second year in a row (3rd straight for LYC) and Tommy Sitzman finished 5th to make it 2 LYC Sailors of the 5 on the the Worlds Team (3rd straight year LYC has had 2+ sailors attend Worlds). 13 LYC Sailors made the gold fleet and hope to receive National Team invites: Baker, Sitzmann, Connor Bolland (8th), Cody Roe (18th), Lucy Meagher (19th), Jack Redmond, Lulu Hamilton, Sara Schumann, Lucas Tenrierro, Nico Garcia-Castrillon, Ty Lamm, Ryan Kronrad and Kevin Gosselin. Additonal accolades: Truman Rodgers won the Silver Fleet, and Drew Lamm won White Fleet and the Trevor Moore Perpetual. KJ Hill, Cody Roe and Baker were all individual race winners! LYC Opti Sailors Score Big at South American Championships!
The 2018 Spring International Campaign for LYC sailors continues! Stephan Baker won the South American Championship in Montevideo, Uruguay. Lulu Hamilton placed 2nd Girl, 16 Overall, and 3rd American, while Jack Redmond was 19th and 5th American. Stephan and Lulu also won the Team Racing Nations Cup!
LYC Sailors Head to Garda for the Largest Opti Regatta in the World!
At Lake Garda Italy 3 more LYC sailors gained great experience in a fleet of 1,059 Optis – the largest regatta of all time! Truman Rodgers placed 143rd, Nico Garcia-Castrilon 291st, and Lucas Tenrierro 229th and got to represent the USA in a Fleet Race Nations Cup, placing 18th/33 against Worlds level competitors. Congrats to all our sailors – we as a sailing community are really proud of the way you continue to strive and inspire. LYC’s Coach Arthur was selected as Garda Coach, which is also an honor to coach the US National Team.
Opti sailors shine at Spring Fling Test Event
38 LYC sailors invaded Miami this past weekend for the Spring Fling Regatta hosted by Coral Reef Yacht Club. Stephan Baker continued his winning ways posting Bullets in all 6 races. Connor Bolland was 2nd overall, sailing his best event to date with only 1 finish outside of the top 3. Other top LYC finishers were Sara Shcuman (5th) Tommy Sitzman (7th), Cody Roe (9th), Jake Homberger (11th), Jack Redmond (13th), Lulu Hamilton (20th), Ty Lamm (23rd), Ryan Konrad (24th), Nico Garcia-Castrillon (28th), Lucy Meagher (34th) and Lucas Tenrierro (36th) – so 13 LYC Sailors in the top 40, with 130 boats in attendance. 12 LYC Green Fleeters also competed led by Pierce Webber in 12th.
Michael Morley Wins Laser Radial Class at Buccaneer Blast Regatta
Michael scored all bullets at the Buccaneer Blast Regatta held at the Upper Keys Sailing Club in Key Largo, FL. This event marked his first Radial regatta after moving up from the Laser 4.7. Michael will also be joining the St. Thomas Aquinas Sailing Team in the fall, so he will be doing double sailing duty soon!
